Two loggers were killed by bow and arrow after allegedly encroaching on the territory of the uncontacted Mashco Piro tribe in Peru’s Amazon, according to FENAMAD, a rights group representing Indigenous communities.

CNN reported that the attack, which occurred on August 29 in the Pariamanu River basin, left two other loggers missing and one injured.

The Mashco Piro, a reclusive tribe, has become more visible as logging activity increases in their region, with another recent attack on loggers occurring in July.

“The Peruvian state has not taken preventive and protective measures to ensure the lives and integrity of the workers who have been gravely affected,” the FENAMAD said in a statement reported by CNN.
