Greece experienced the hottest month in its history this July, according to preliminary data from the national observatory. This new record follows another high set in June, highlighting a concerning trend in rising temperatures.

July temperatures exceeded the previous record set in 2012 by 0.3°C, as specified by the observatory. Since 1960, average temperatures in Greece have risen by 2.5°C, with the observatory noting that the three hottest Julys of the past 80 years have all occurred in the last four years.

June also experienced abnormally high temperatures, making it the hottest since 1960. The heatwave had significant impacts on the country, including the partial closure of the Acropolis during peak heat hours, a popular tourist attraction.

Additionally, Greece is grappling with water shortages due to drought and poor management, exacerbating the effects of the extreme heat.
