Morocco’s flag carrier airlines avoided disruptions from a global IT outage caused by a Microsoft bug that crippled computer systems worldwide this morning, but Morocco’s Airports Authority says it expects a snowballing effect to halt much of the traffic in Morocco’s airports.
Sources in ONDA told Hespress EN that Morocco’s flag carrier RAM and low-cost airline Air Arabia did not use Microsoft in their operations and were not affected by the outrage.
” This is what we know so far, but we expect the situation to progress throughout the day,” said the source, citing outrages in several international airlines that operate in Morocco, including Ryanair, which said it was affected by the outrage.
“We’re currently experiencing disruption across the network due to a global third party IT outage which is out of our control. We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time,” the Dublin-based carrier said in a statement posted on X.
Ryanair operates 11 domestic routes connecting nine Moroccan destinations and several other international connections.
Frustrated travelers faced delays worldwide on Friday afternoon as a widespread software outage impacted airlines.
The outage, caused by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, struck at around 5:30 AM Morocco time, crippling computer systems at airlines, banks, supermarkets, media outlets, and more. This resulted in grounded flights, long wait times, and disruptions for travelers.
