How Netherlands could line up against Iceland

Sports Mole looks at how Netherlands could line up in Monday’s international friendly with Iceland.

Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman is set to make changes to his starting side for the team’s final warm-up match ahead of this summer’s European Championship.

Holland recorded a 4-0 win over Canada last time out, with Memphis Depay, Jeremie Frimpong, Wout Weghorst and Virgil van Dijk on the scoresheet in Rotterdam.

Koeman will shuffle his pack for this contest, with Van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Denzel Dumfries all expected to come into the defence.

Cody Gakpo was an unused substitute against Canada, meanwhile, and the Liverpool attacker should now come into the XI, joining Memphis in the final third.

Koeman could again have a look at Frimpong in a wide attacking role due to his strong display last time out, but there is also likely to be a change in midfield, with Teun Koopmeiners in line to start.

There are plenty of quality options all across the Dutch squad, with Koeman facing a tough task when it comes to finalising his XI for their Euro 2024 opener against Poland on June 16.

Micky van de Ven played at left-back against Canada, and that could again be the case here, while the experienced Georginio Wijnaldum is in line for his 93rd cap.

Frenkie de Jong‘s involvement remains unclear, though, with the Barcelona midfielder still attempting to work his way back from the ankle injury which forced him to miss the end of last season.

Netherlands possible starting lineup: Verbruggen; Dumfries, Van Dijk, Ake, Van de Ven; Koopmeiners, Wijnaldum, Gravenberch; Frimpong, Gakpo, Memphis
