How Spain could line up against Northern Ireland

Sports Mole looks at how Spain could line up in Saturday’s international friendly with Northern Ireland.

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente will make wholesale changes to his starting side for Saturday’s international friendly with Northern Ireland.

La Roja were 5-0 winners over Andorra on Thursday evening, with Ayoze Perez capping a memorable debut with a goal, while Fermin Lopez also made his first appearance for the national side off the bench.

Mikel Oyarzabal netted a hat-trick to put himself firmly in contention to start Spain’s Euro 2024 opener against Croatia on June 15, and the Real Sociedad attacker is expected to be in the XI here.

Unai Simon is set to feature between the sticks, while Dani Carvajal is also expected to come into the side, having not been involved against Andorra.

Robin Le Normand, Fabian Ruiz, Rodri and Lamine Yamal are also in line for starts, while Nico Williams and Mikel Merino could potentially receive 45 minutes of action.

Pau Cubarsi again impressed in his first-half performance against Andorra and could start again, with the Barcelona teenager potentially having an important role to play for La Roja this summer.

Alvaro Morata is comfortably Spain’s leading goalscorer with 19, and the Atletico Madrid forward should again operate at the tip of the attack here.

Spain possible starting lineup: Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Cubarsi, Grimaldo; Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz; Yamal, Morata, Oyarzabal
