Three Premier League clubs ‘step up Mason Greenwood pursuit’

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is allegedly wanted by three Premier League clubs during this summer’s transfer window.

Mason Greenwood is allegedly wanted by three Premier League clubs this summer, with the Englishman widely expected to leave Manchester United on a permanent basis.

At the start of 2022, following accusations from a woman, the forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was officially dropped in February 2023, allowing him to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign.

Man United are believed to have initially made the decision to bring him back into their squad last summer but were forced into a U-turn due to the reaction of the public.

Greenwood was therefore told that he had no future at Old Trafford, leading to a loan move to Getafe, and he impressed for the Spanish outfit during the 2023-24 season after a lengthy period out of the game.

Greenwood is set to leave Man United this summer

The 22-year-old managed 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances for Getafe, including eight goals and six assists in 33 appearances in Spain’s top flight.

Man United’s new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted in February that Greenwood could potentially come back into the Red Devils squad for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, a permanent exit this summer is believed to be the most likely outcome to the situation, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Juventus linked with his services.

According to Football Insider, there is also interest from the Premier League, and three clubs from England’s top flight are stepping up their attempts to sign him.

It is highly unlikely that Man United would allow him to join another English club, but it remains to be seen whether any suitable offers arrive from abroad.

Three Premier League clubs ‘are keen’ on Greenwood

Any sale of Greenwood this summer would represent pure profit under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, allowing the club to boost their squad ahead of next season.

Before his arrest, the forward was regarded as one of the best young talents in world football, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists in 129 matches for Man United in all competitions.

Greenwood’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2025, but it has been suggested that his deal could be extended in order to protect his valuation.

A recent report claimed that the Englishman wants to return to Getafe this summer, but the capital outfit do not have the financial power to sign him on a permanent basis.

Man United named Greenwood on their retained list on Wednesday afternoon, but it was confirmed by the club that Brandon Williams would follow Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane out of the exit door.
