Spanish government data, reported by the Iberian news outlet Vozpópuli, revealed that they distribute nearly €300 million annually in subsidies to roughly 250 foreign entities and organizations.
Published on Sunday, the report mentioned that Spain allocates this amount of money annually as part of public aids.
It is often directed to entities in African countries or in the Middle East and Latin America, primarily overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
The same source revealed that Morocco stands out as a major recipient, with its Ministry of Interior receiving €30 million, likely to support joint efforts on migration control.
This piece of information is based on the latest available data corresponding to 2022, with updates made until September 2023.
Besides, the Nahda Association of Water and Electricity Professionals in Tangier also received €225,000 from the Spanish government.
The same source noted that Spain provided the separatist Polisario delegation to Spain with €130,000.
Vozpópuli revealed that Palestine, now recognized by the Spanish government as a state, stands out among the beneficiaries as well.
The Iberian country allocated 5.5 million dollars through support for the United Nations Agency for Refugees, in addition to 1.5 million for the Ministry of Finance of the Palestinian National Authority, as well as to other Palestinian associations and institutions that receive Spanish aid.
It mentioned that Spain distributed 350,000 euros to the MA’AN Development Center, 250,000 euros to the Rural Women’s Development Society, and 250,000 euros to the Aisha Associations for Women, among other Palestinian entities.
Other North African countries benefit from similar subsidies, as well was Mauritania’s Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, which received €10 million for its coast guard service, while its Ministry of Health and Directorate General of National Security received €650,000 and €108,000, respectively.
