North Korea has dropped some 260 balloons filled with rubbish into South Korea, days after North Korea’s recent threat to retaliate against leaflets and other materials scattered by South Korean activists in border areas.
South Korean authorities warned citizens to stay indoors and not touch the balloons, reportedly containing trash and fecal matter.
“We sternly warn the North to immediately stop its inhumane and low-class actions,” Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s sister on Wednesday mocked the “goblins of liberal democracy” in Seoul for complaining about the balloons of waste, and pledged more could follow.
“We have tried something they have always been doing, but I cannot understand why they are making a fuss as if they were hit by (a) shower of bullets,” Kim Yo Jong said in a statement carried late Wednesday by the official Korean Central News Agency.
