Manchester United shock Manchester City to win FA Cup

Manchester United win the FA Cup for the 13th time thanks to a 2-1 victory over Manchester City, in what may be Erik ten Hag’s last match as head coach.

Manchester United completed a precious revenge mission over bitter rivals Manchester City to win the FA Cup for the 13th time in their history thanks to a 2-1 victory over the Premier League champions at Wembley.

Amid claims that Erik ten Hag will be sacked as head coach regardless of Saturday’s result, the Dutchman oversaw a truly masterful performance from the Red Devils, whose teenage phenoms Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo both struck in the first half.

City – who huffed and puffed without success for the majority of the match – managed to pull one back late on through Jeremy Doku, but the Belgian’s effort would be scant consolation as Man United earned a slice of vengeance for their identical loss to Pep Guardiola‘s side in the 2022-23 final.

Ensuring that Man City would only end the season with Premier League stardom to their name – extinguishing their hopes of a ‘double double’ – Man United gave Ten Hag the perfect send-off if INEOS are indeed set to pull the trigger on the under-fire Dutchman, whose smile beamed the brightest at Wembley.

In addition to winning their second trophy in as many seasons under Ten Hag, Man United’s success also punched their ticket to the 2024-25 Europa League – having failed to seal a place in Europe via their league position – while demoting Chelsea to the Europa Conference League and denying Newcastle United any form of continental football.

More to follow.
