MINURSO head meets with Russia’s foreign ministry on Sahara

Russian Alexander Ivanko, head of the MINURSO mission and representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Sahara, arrived in Moscow on Thursday, where he held a bilateral meeting with Sergey Vershinin, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.

The visit comes in response to the Russian authorities sending an official invitation to the UN official, Alexander Ivanko, head of the MINURSO mission in the Sahara.

“The meeting discussed a number of issues related to the daily activities of the MINURSO mission, as well as the conditions in its area of ​​operations in detail,” The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry expressed its continued support for the activities of the MINURSO mission, which “works to create conditions for a just, long-term and acceptable solution to the conflict, based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”
