Erik ten Hag ‘has a 50-50 chance of keeping Manchester United job’

Erik ten Hag’s chances of keeping the Manchester United job beyond the end of the 2023-24 campaign are allegedly 50-50.

Erik ten Hag‘s chances of keeping the managerial position at Manchester United beyond the end of the 2023-24 campaign are reportedly 50-50.

There will not be a change in the dug-out before the end of the season, with the Red Devils finishing their Premier League campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25.

Ten Hag’s future beyond the end of the month is unclear, though, with Man United’s new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe considering making a change.

According to The Guardian, the ex-Ajax head coach has a 50-50 chance of keeping his job at Old Trafford this summer.

The report claims that victory in the FA Cup could lead to Ten Hag staying, as senior figures at Man United would view that as a successful campaign considering the team’s injury problems this season.

Ten Hag’s future ‘to be decided after FA Cup final’

The Red Devils would qualify for next season’s Europa League if they can win the FA Cup final, but they are facing missing out on Europe altogether due to their league struggles.

The 20-time English champions are currently eighth in the Premier League table, three points behind sixth-placed Newcastle United, who head to Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Ten Hag led Man United to EFL Cup glory last season, while the team also made the final of the FA Cup and finished third in the Premier League.

It has been a testing campaign for the club, but Ten Hag has had to deal with a lengthy injury list for long stages, particularly in defensive positions.

Ahead of last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, Ten Hag insisted that club chiefs were sympathetic to the fitness problems which have occurred in 2023-24, with the Dutchman not concerned about losing his job.

Kieran McKenna ‘contacted by Man United over return’

Man United have allegedly been in touch with their former coach Kieran McKenna, who is currently in charge of Ipswich Town, to discuss potentially replacing Ten Hag this summer.

McKenna has led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions, and the 38-year-old is allegedly viewed as a genuine candidate to become the team’s new manager, should a change be made this summer.

Thomas Tuchel is still regarded as the favourite, but it has been claimed that the German could now potentially remain in charge of Bayern Munich for one more season.

England boss Gareth Southgate and ex-Chelsea head coach Graham Potter also continue to be linked with the role, which could become available after the FA Cup final.

Man United have only picked up one point from their last three league games, drawing at home to Burnley before suffering successive losses to Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
