Tottenham Hotspur ‘planning nine-player clearout in summer window’

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have ambitions to sell as many as nine players during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou is reportedly prepared to part ways with as many as nine players during the summer transfer window.

In the Greek-Australian’s first season in charge, Spurs have performed far better than under his predecessors, almost guaranteeing European football for 2023-24.

However, Spurs are currently on a run of four successive defeats, leaving the North Londoners seven points adrift of Aston Villa in the race for the final Champions League place.

Realistically, Spurs need to overcome Burnley, Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United in their final three matches to avoid the Europa League becoming the best-case scenario.

During Spurs’ recent downturn in form, Postecoglou has been straight-talking regarding how he plans to make changes to the playing and coaching side of things at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Who could leave Spurs?

While a number of different names have been branded about as potential departures, it appears that Postecoglou has identified a wider selection of players that he would prefer not to feature in his senior ranks during 2024-25.

According to Football Insider, a total of nine players could move onto pastures new in order to generate funds for new players.

Most recently, it has been suggested that Brazilian duo Emerson Royal and Richarlison top the list of players who had been made available for transfer.

The pair have been involved in 21 and 28 Premier League matches respectively this campaign, yet Royal has started just 11 times and Richarlison has endured two separate prolonged periods without finding the back of the net.

Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke says that Giovani Lo Celso is another high-profile name on the list having accumulated just 491 minutes of top-flight football across 20 matches this campaign.

Six fringe players to find new clubs?

Bryan Gil could have departed in January, only to stay put, but the Spanish playmaker has made just one substitute outing in the last three months and is now destined to find a new team, Spurs preferring a permanent exit.

Joe Rodon will be sold despite starring for Leeds United in the Championship. The Wales international, who is preparing to feature in the playoffs, has just over one year left on his contract.

Despite making an impression at Brentford, Sergio Reguilon will move on, as will Djed Spence who has spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Genoa.

Japhet Tanganga‘s first sustained run of first-team football for a number of years on loan at Millwall should lead to interested parties in the summer.

The same has not materialised for Tanguy Ndombele at Galatasaray, with just six starts and 19 substitute outings being made in all competitions, but the former £64m man will be sold for a cut-price fee should interest arise.
