Gerard Depardieu in custody for sexual assault

French actor Gerard Depardieu was taken into police custody this Monday, April 29, to answer accusations of sexual assaults against two women, which allegedly took place on two separate shoots.

According to BFM TV, the French actor was taken into police custody at 8am (GMT+1) to answer accusations of sexual assault made by two women.

The alleged victims accuse him of touching them on two shoots. The first, in 2014 on the set of Jean-Pierre Mocky’s Le Magicien et les Siamois and in 2021 on the set of Jean Becker’s Les Volets verts.

These new accusations come on top of a previous case, in which Gérard Depardieu has been under investigation since December 2020 for rape and sexual assault of actress Charlotte Arnould. However, the actor denies the charges.

Described as a controversial, larger-than-life character, Depardieu became the face of French cinema thanks to roles in films such as Cyrano de Bergerac, Jean de Florette and Camille Claudel.

He has also enjoyed a successful international career, having directed over 180 films, working with Peter Weir in Green Card and Ridley Scott, among others.
