Record QB drought follows historic top 12 at 2024 NFL Draft

All sorts of quarterback records occurred in Round 1 in the 2024 NFL Draft with six players at the position being selected with the first 12 picks. Spin forward to Saturday’s Day 3 and another QB record has been broken, probably not the one Spencer Rattler, Michael Pratt and others wanted to occur.

No quarterbacks have been selected since former Oregon standout Bo Nix came off the board to the Denver Broncos at No. 12 in the first round.

The Washington Commanders selected Temple linebacker Jordan Magee in the fourth round at No. 139. According to NFL Research, the 127 consecutive selections without a quarterback selected broke a record for longest QB drought in a draft.

The previous record occurred in 1972. The Atlanta Falcons selected Pat Sullivan at No. 40 followed up 126 picks later with Jim Fassel at No. 167 the Chicago Bears.

The drought continued as Round 4 ended

The next best quarterbacks still available, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler:

  • No. 72: Spencer Rattler, South Carolina
  • No. 104: Michael Pratt, Tulane
  • No. 184: Devin Leary, Kentucky
  • No. 196: Joe Milton III, Tennessee
