The New York Jets have signed defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers to a contract extension, sources tell The Athletic. The New York Daily News was first to report news of the extension.
A fourth-round pick in 2018, Franklin-Myers already has tied his career high with three sacks this season to go along with 15 tackles, which are four shy of the career-high 19 he logged in 15 games last season.

Jets’ John Franklin-Myers signs new contract, wants to give his son ‘every opportunity’
What’s been the biggest reason for Franklin-Myers’ spike in production?
Connor Hughes, Jets beat writer: You saw bits and pieces of Franklin-Myers’ emergence last year. He was coming along, and while the sack totals weren’t there, he was routinely around the quarterback.
Coach Robert Saleh’s attack-first defensive scheme likely played the biggest roll in his emergence, though. The Jets are using him in a Justin Tuck-like role. He’s outside on rushing downs, and inside on passing.
Could there be any more in-season extensions on the horizon?
Hughes: As of now, no. Marcus Maye was the other possibility, but his DUI clouds that.
The biggest thing this extension shows is the Jets’ willingness to award players who exceed expectations. That’s been a criticism during the Joe Douglas tenure. It’s hard to make that argument anymore.
