The Indianapolis Colts selected former Texas receiver Adonai Mitchell with the No. 52 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He joins a wide receiver group in Indy headlined by Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect helped Georgia win back-to-back national championships before transferring to Texas where he led the Big 12 in receiving touchdowns with 11 and was named the conference’s Offensive Newcomer Of the Year.
Colts GM Chris Ballard has now selected a wide receiver on Day 2 of the NFL Draft three years in a row and five of the past six years. He took Parris Campbell in Round 2 in 2019, Pittman in Round 2 in 2020, Pierce in Round 2 in 2022, Downs in Round 3 in 2023 and now Mitchell in Round 2 in 2024.

‘The Beast’ breakdown
Mitchell ranked No. 33 in Dane Brugler’s Top 300 big board. Here’s what Brugler had to say about him in his annual NFL Draft guide:
“Despite some wasted movements in his routes that need to be tightened up, Mitchell cleanly accelerates/decelerates at will with the fluid movement skills to create separation out of his breaks (his 81.8 percent first down/touchdown rate in 2023 was the best among the receivers in this draft class). Though not the strongest player through contact, he has the hand-eye coordination and pliable frame to adjust, high point and reach throws most receivers cannot.”
Coaching intel
What an anonymous coach had to say about Mitchell in Bruce Feldman’s mock draft:
“He’s big and physical and has really strong hands. And he can move like a guy 30 pounds lighter.”
Why he’s a second-round pick
Mitchell earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in his lone season at Texas which was also his most productive. Despite posting his best numbers in Austin, Mitchell made an impact at Georgia as well when not limited by injuries. He caught a touchdown pass in the 2021 national championship game.
