Colorado running back Dylan Edwards has entered the NCAA transfer portal after one season with the Buffaloes, The Athletic has learned.
Edwards emerged as one of the team’s most talented offensive playmakers with a breakout performance at TCU in his college debut, producing 177 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in the 45-42 upset victory and breaking school records for receiving yards and receiving touchdowns by a running back.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound back from Derby, Kan., was a four-star recruit and flipped from Notre Dame to Colorado after the hiring of Deion Sanders, who coached Edwards as a youth football player in the Dallas area. Edwards earned six starts during his freshman season and finished with 744 all-purpose yards (including a team-high 321 rushing yards) and five scores while playing in an offense that finished last in the FBS in rushing at 68.9 yards per game. Edwards also competed in two track meets for the Buffaloes in February.
“Dylan is a tremendous asset,” Sanders told reporters last week. “We’re going to try to get the ball to Dylan in all forms and facets.”
Colorado landed a commitment from Ohio State transfer running back Dallan Hayden on Monday and will likely pursue another after Edwards, Sy’veon Wilkerson and Alton McCaskill all entered the portal this spring and Anthony Hankerson transferred to Oregon State in December. Freshman Micah Welch, a three-star recruit, joined the program this spring as an early enrollee.
