Carlos Tevez hospitalised with chest pain, initial tests ‘satisfactory’

Former Argentina international Carlos Tevez has been admitted to hospital in Buenos Aires after experiencing chest pain.

The 40-year-old former Manchester United and Manchester City forward underwent tests at the Sanatorio La Trinidad in San Isidro on Tuesday where he will remain as a precaution while further assessments are carried out.

Tevez has been head coach of Argentinian Primera Division side Independiente since August 2023.

“Our coach, Carlos Tevez, entered the La Trinidad Sanatorium in San Isidro with chest pain,” an Independiente statement read. “They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Tomorrow, he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up that is usually carried out.”

The club provided a second update an hour later, which read: “Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed.”

Tevez represented Boca Juniors, Corinthians, West Ham United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Shanghai Shenhua during a professional career spanning 20 years. He won the Premier League on three occasions, in addition to two Serie A titles and the Champions League in 2008.

The forward made 76 appearances for Argentina and represented his country at the 2006 and 2010 World Cup.

He retired in June 2022 and took his first managerial role with Primera Division side Rosario Central later that month, before moving to Independiente last summer.

Independiente finished sixth in the Primera Division after the first phase of fixtures and return to action on May 12 against Talleres Cordoba.
