Inter Miami has completed a deal to sign midfielder Matias Rojas, sources briefed on the deal tell The Athletic.

Rojas, 28, has been with Corinthians since last summer but hasn’t appeared in a match since February due to a dispute with the club over missed image rights payments. The club was reportedly seeking to terminate his contract. The attacking midfielder made 30 appearances for Corinthians and has 16 caps with Paraguay.

Rojas was spotted in Miami last weekend watching his new club’s win over Nashville. Miami created the roster flexibility to bring in a player of Rojas’ stature following the departures of DeAndre Yedlin and Jean Mota last month.

The timing is ideal for Miami, who just announced breakout attacker and fellow Paraguay international Diego Gomez will miss around six weeks with an ankle sprain. Rojas can also play on the wing, where Gomez was excelling.

Inter Miami currently sits atop the Supporters’ Shield standings with 18 points after 10 matches.
