We have reached the end of the NHL season, meaning it’s time to determine the best of the best when it comes to players and fashion.
And how did we crown the best?
We compiled a list of every player who appeared on our NHL style power rankings throughout the regular season and awarded points based on where they were ranked in each of them. A player received 10 points if he ranked first, nine points for being ranked second, and so on. To be considered for the season-ending list, a player needed a minimum of three appearances. (Unfortunately, Ryan Reaves, Jack Eichel, Yanni Gourde and Ryan Lomberg failed to make our best-of list despite posting competitive scores.) In the event of any tiebreaker, we used the number of appearances as a decider.
Yes, some honorary mentions just missed the cut (Connor Bedard and Evander Kane come to mind). But there might not be a bigger snub than Toronto Maple Leafs star winger William Nylander, who made five style rankings appearances this season but only amassed 13 points because of where he was ranked those weeks.
There shouldn’t be too many other surprises about those who made our top 10. A ton of heavy hitters and favorites still made the list.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Powers: What I loved about Marner’s fits was how they blended business with casual. You could wear them for any occasion. I respect his sneaker game, as well. He seemed to have a lot of fun with it all.
McKenzie: I really admired Marner’s approach to being as casual as he could for NHL games. I wish more guys dressed like him instead of just wearing suits all the time. Maybe we’ll get there one day. And when it happens, I think Marner will embrace that style even further.

McKenzie: Duclair had some strong outfits this year. He is definitely considered among the NHL’s best when it comes to style, largely because there aren’t many others in the league who can pull off the fits he wears.
Powers: My guess is Duclair would be a lot higher in these rankings if the Sharks posted more of his fits when he was still in San Jose. We ranked him twice in the short time he was in Tampa. Duclair has a ton of style.

McKenzie: Aho’s outfits exuded class whenever we ranked him. He held his own against some star power this season — including this incredible green suit we’ve showcased here.
Powers: We ranked Aho three times this year, and two of them were top-two finishes. The one we liked most was this especially sharp green suit.

McKenzie: Joseph is definitely in the category of players willing to push the envelope with their outfits, including this bright orange ensemble we ranked earlier this season. His penchant for trying things earned points from me and Scott, and we’re looking forward to next season’s fits.
Powers: Joseph put together fits from head to toe with the best of them this season. Everything just seemed to work perfectly together.

Powers: I forgot how highly ranked we had Nečas this season until we compiled the numbers. We ranked him only three times, but he was in the top three each time. I loved the colors he chose for his suits.
McKenzie: I’m not sure if it’s the confidence, the bright colors or what, but Nečas found a way to impress us every time we debated ranking him this season.

Dallas Stars
Powers: One of my favorite stories this year was talking to Duchene about his style. He was engaged in the conversation and explained why he chose what he wore. The Carhartt custom suit was one of the coolest fits this year.
McKenzie: I am seconding Scott’s opinion on the Carhartt suit. It’s such a cool color and look — and I still didn’t expect that brand to be in the suit game.

McKenzie: Matthews can be classy, casual, a borderline hipster or a streetwear aficionado. He may be the most versatile dresser in the game. It might not be for everyone, but you can’t ignore his ability to dress as if GQ is watching his every move.
Powers: Matthews has a very distinct look. It usually includes a neck covering, usually a turtleneck, and a unique jacket. It took me a little to warm up to his style, but I like it now.

Vancouver Canucks
McKenzie: I’m bummed that I didn’t get a chance to personally interview Zadorov about his style while he was a member of the Calgary Flames. His trade to Vancouver changed that opportunity, but it didn’t affect his style choices while moving further west. The double-breasted suits and turtlenecks got our thumbs up on a few occasions this season.
Powers: LIke Duclair, Zadorov will likely be offended by our ranking, even at No. 3. You can count on Zadorov to wear a fine-tailored, double-breasted suit almost every time out. There’s an elegance to his style.

Tom Marchitelli / Gentleman’s Playbook
McKenzie: Every time I see Ullmark pull off a great suit or hat, I think of him at the back of a Boston pizza place heavily studying fabrics and potential outfits with his stylist, Tom Marchitelli. Asking him questions about his style was one of my highlights of the 2023-24 season. Ullmark is an incredibly insightful guy who cares a ton about what he wears.
Powers: I had no idea Ullmark was this stylish before this season, but I now have a deep respect for his taste. You could even argue he’s more stylish than the person who finished No. 1. Ullmark was voted No. 1 three times in our rankings this season. He and his stylist obviously put a lot of thought into what he wears. He was impressive throughout the season.

Powers: Pastrňák had as many as No. 1 selections as Ullmark, but what put him over the top was being included in the rankings one additional time. Pastrňák had so much cool variety this year. He could dress up if needed, but he also had fun and tried things.
McKenzie: Pastrňák pulled off an Adidas tracksuit — and that wasn’t the only time we marveled at his style. He had a handful of adventurous, stylish and incredible outfits that made him worthy of the top spot this year. Personally, I’m still raving about the bright-yellow Poner jacket he wore in Toronto at the All-Star Game. He is the style king once more, according to us.
