A recent international survey by CEO International Magazine survey ranked Morocco sixth out of 63 countries globally, with a score of 69.82 points for making progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel use.
Morocco is aiming for a 45.5% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.
The survey prioritizes greenhouse gas emissions (40%) alongside renewable energy use (20%), energy efficiency, and climate policy (20% each).
Denmark retained its top spot for the third year, followed by Estonia and the Philippines.
In the Middle East and North Africa, Morocco stands out as the first, followed by Egypt ranked 18th, South Africa 41st, and Algeria 50.
This recognition builds upon Morocco’s prior achievements. In the 2023 Climate Change Performance Index by Germanwatch, Morocco ranked fourth globally in the ranking that assessed national climate policies in areas like renewable energy, emissions, energy use, and climate policy.
Since hosting the COP22 climate conference in 2016, Morocco has consistently pursued a sustainable energy transition. The country aims for carbon neutrality by 2050, with a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. Investments in green hydrogen projects further showcase this commitment.
