West Ham United midfielder George Earthy is “awake” and will receive medical attention at a London hospital after suffering a “head injury” on his Premier League debut.
Earthy, 19, had replaced Michail Antonio in the 82nd minute for West Ham against Fulham but collided with team-mate Edson Alvarez, then needing treatment on the pitch.
After a delay, the teenager was taken off the pitch on a stretcher with an oxygen mask and a neck brace.
Earthy was conscious as he left the London Stadium in an ambulance with his family after the match.
“George has suffered a head injury,” West Ham manager David Moyes said after the match. “He’s awake and has been taken to hospital for further assessment.”
Play was stopped for eight minutes as Earthy received medical attention after players of both sides had immediately raised concerns.
Earthy was then replaced by Maxwel Cornet in injury time, as West Ham fell to a 2-0 home defeat against their London rivals.
The midfielder was making just his second senior appearance after coming on as a late substitute in West Ham’s Europa League last-16 second-leg victory over Freiburg last month.
Earthy was part of the West Ham Under-18 side that won an FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League South double during the 2022–23 season.
