Manchester United youngster Ethan Wheatley is in the matchday squad for the first time for today’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth.
Wheatley, 18, is a regular in the United Under-21 and Under-18 sides. The striker recently scored a hat-trick in the latter’s 9-1 victory over Liverpool Under-18s earlier this month.
He has also been capped up to under-17 level with England and signed his first professional contract at United in January, shortly after his 18th birthday.
Harry Amass and Habeeb Ogunneye, 17 and 18 respectively, will also be in the matchday squad on the south coast.
Amass was signed from Watford in the summer and the left-back made the substitutes’ bench for the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last Sunday. Ogunneye has been named in United first-team squads three times in the last five Premier League games. Like Wheatley and Amass, the right-back has been capped by the England Under-17s.
United manager Erik ten Hag has several first-team players out ahead of the Bournemouth game, particularly in defence. Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are all unavailable for the game at the Vitality Stadium.
Striker Anthony Martial is also out, while there are doubts over the fitness of midfielder Scott McTominay and forward Marcus Rashford.
United travel to Bournemouth having not won in their last three league games — the 1-1 draw with Brentford, the 4-3 defeat at Chelsea and the 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
